One of the biggest and most important seed banks in the world is at risk of being paved over by a private housing development.
The facility near the Russian city of St Petersburg houses thousands of varieties of plants that are not found anywhere else in the world.
During World War II, Russian plant scientists literally starved rather than save themselves by eating the seeds stored in this seed bank during a brutal multi-month siege by the Nazis.
To my mind, this act of self-sacrifice was one of the greatest demonstrations of human nobility in history.

(2/14/2011) Greetings to all of our Salt Covenant Partners across the nation and around the world.
First, let's address the historic geopolitical earthquake that happened this week in Egypt. What does it mean and how will it affect YOU!
Egypt is the mother of the Arab world. Egypt is where the 70 children of Israel lived for 400 plus years as a family became a nation of millions. Egypt is where Jesus and His parents fled when Herod threatened to kill the infant King. Egypt has a history that begins at the beginning and is now shaking the world with its demands for freedom.
What are we truly seeing in Egypt?
I believe the Egyptians liberated themselves from Mubarak; I do not believe they have liberated themselves from tyranny. I believe we are seeing what happened in Iran in 1979 with the fall of the Shah of Iran a second time.
The Muslim Brotherhood is in the driver's seat in Egypt. The Muslim Brotherhood was born under the instructions of the Nazi's in the late 1920s. They are hand in glove with Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran and the Revolutionary Guard. They have an absolute hatred for America and Israel.
Yes, Egypt will have an election and all of the mental midgets in America's media will jump and shout and dance about. There will be repeated proclamations of "democracy in action." Not so!
Remember, an election does not create a democracy! We had an election in Gaza and Hamas, a worldwide terrorist organization was duly elected and remain in power to this day. Hamas is committed to the destruction of Israel and America! Yes, they are in power by an election but that does not make them a democracy.
Egypt will have an election that will be totally controlled by the Islamic Brotherhood. Whoever gets elected will be approved by the Islamic Brotherhood. This Brotherhood wants to see Israel and America destroyed.
I want our Salt Covenant Partners to think about this! I have already told my church what I am about to tell you.
Fact: Nations that hate America now have the ability to close the Suez Canal and to block the Strait of Hormuz and to close the Canal in Yemen.
Result? No ship can reach America with crude oil that makes gasoline and diesel that controls America's economy. The price of gasoline is going to sky rocket as is the price of food. I encourage my church family to keep six weeks of food in their house at all times. It's much better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Nations that hate us now control our economic destiny.
If there was ever a time to pray for America and Israel it's now. If there was ever a time to support the preaching of truth in this millennium of politically correct deception; it's now!
I thank you for your faithful and loving support that has permitted me for 35 years to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the nations of the world. Today, the fight rages! The future of America hangs in the balance. This is not my fight...this is OUR fight!
The best weapon God has ever given us is television. It reaches millions with the click of a button in their homes. Thank you for making it possible for the light of truth to shine in this era of spiritual darkness.

Alex often wakes up at night wanting to take down the thoughts running through his head, so he adopted his audio blog format to try to capture that state of mind. It is admittedly an experiment– he is still a bit dazed, for instance, during the beginning of the blog. Yet in many ways, Alex is more calm and focused at home and in peace, allowing for greater reflection on humanity’s bigger picture.
Later, Alex picks up the recording again on his drive into the studio, analyzing the system as a hollowed-out wall plagued by termites, observing the police state that now surrounds us and commenting on a recent Supreme Court decision that encourages prosecutors to lie and fabricate evidence. Alex then shares some of his encounters in daily life with power-tripping cops, security guards and ordinary individuals. While his on-the-fly rantings may be a different pace from his radio show, there are plenty of golden nuggets throughout.
